Meet my sponsored rider...
Sophie Brown
Jessica Spalding Veterinary Physiotherapist, is proud to sponsor Sophie Brown of Cottagers Plot Equestrian Centre. CPEC is a busy 50 horse livery yard just outside the town of Grimsby, with excellent facilities and knowledgable staff that all have taken and are working their way through the BHS exams. The equestrian centre offers lessons, holiday activities, pony loans, several livery packages for the happy hacker through to competition and schooling livery and most importantly a great yard spirit with friendly advice always at hand.
This is where Jessica Spalding Veterinary Physiotherapist is based and offer competitive rehabilitation livery packages if your horse is recovering from injury, needs bringing slowly back into work in a controlled environment, or just for some reschooling.
Sophie currently competes a number of horses up to British Eventing Advanced and FEI CCI***** Level. Sophie has experience in breeding and backing young horses and one of her current rides, Wil, with whom she represented Great Britain in the European CCI** Championship 2013 held in Laintal, Austria, completed Sophie's dream of competing at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2017 and was a member of the Tean GBR Gold Medal winning Nation's Cup team at The Plains, USA 2018, amongst multiple top 10 finishes both nationally and internationally.
Wil was bought unbroken ten years ago, as a feral five year old. With her time and patience, Wil has been produced into a top quality ride with an exciting eventing career ahead of which the partnership is currently competing at Advanced level and CCI*****. Further to this Sophie's first and second string of homebred young horses are now backed and proving to be exciting and successfully out competing within British Eventing and British Showjumping alongside completing their first few international FEI events.

Sophie is eagar to learn herself and is forever wanting to expand her equine knowledge in both her eventing, riding, coaching, management and care side of the business. She is a qualified BHS II instructor and a UKCC Level 3 qualified coach, currently waiting to sit her BHS Stable Managers exam. Sophie is also a qualified First Aider. She has tuition with numerous international trainers over the three disciplines of dressage, show jumping and cross-country and thereby gains invaluable knowledge which she can share when teaching others.
Sophie enjoys teaching riders of all ages and abilities and has a specific interest in riders wishing to compete and the production of young horses and up and coming rider partnerships. Sophie's horses receive regular physiotherapy sessions from Jess to support them throughout their training and competition schedule. Wil has had a fantastic run of form this season winning a Team Gold Medal in the American Nation's Cup for Team GBR, alongside finishing in 3rd Place at Millstreet International Horse Trials.. Sophie's horses receive on site treatments at their international events. Not to be outdone by Wil, Sophie's young up and coming horse's Sarchie and SBE Grafensbrook have also had numerous wins and placings up to Intermediate BE level, alongside multiple placings up to FEI CCI** level, with Sarchie becoming the Individual winner at the British Riding Club Championships, four years after Sarchie's sire, the stallion Ulano M ridden by Sophie, won the same championship! This has been Sophie's most exciting season competing to date and Jess has been proud to sponsor Sophie both at home with the horse's regular maintenance sessions and travelling to major competitions to make sure the horse's are fit and feeling well to complete their events in the best shape possible. We look forward to a winter of training ready for next season to come out fighting fit. What Sophie has to say..."Jess has been supporting and treating my horse's for the last four seasons and the results speak for themselves! My horses' feel relaxed and able to work at their best. I never feel rushed, with Jess giving a thorough assessment both statically and dynamically before palpating and treating each horse. It is remarkable how Jess can detect where minor schooling problems creep in just by assessing the condition of the horses muscles! This works hand in hand with the way I train and produce my horses as Jess produces exercise programmes and in stable exercises that target any weaknesses or areas that require improvement as the horses work their way up the levels. Jess is always on the end of the phone if I need any advice, and with Jess' background in research, her understanding of exercise physiology, biomechanics, modern technology and injury prevention and rehabilitation make her an invaluable member of my team both in training and at major international events. Eventing at such a high level means that I very much need a team of professionals around my horses and myself. Jess is perfectly happy fitting into that team, having a great relationship with my vet, farrier, saddle fitter, dentist and trainers, keeping thorough and detailed reports, exercise programmes and histories for each horse, keeping each member of my support team updated should they or myself require copies.
Jess is always professional and understands and cares about how my horses are going, wanting to be a part of creating a plan to achieve mine and my horses goals. My sensitive horses really respond well to Jess' patience, understanding that the horses need to trust and relax during their sessions, often using her electrotherapy machines to ease any sore or fatigued areas avoiding distressing the horses, who recognise her as the "treat lady" when they work hard or through a painful area. This is a great approach as the horses' look forward to their sessions and seeing Jess rather than expecting a hard or painful session. I have particularly noticed my more sensitive and neurotic horses have been more relaxed and rideable at home and at competitions. This has been my most successful year in eventing across all levels. Jess understands from a training perspective and from a cellular level the demands placed on my horses, meaning that the level of care taken over the horses at events allow me to trust that my horses will feel fighting fit on the final day of competition coming home sound and providing fantastic results in all phases. I look forward to working with Jess in the future and highly recommend her to anyone with horses or dogs!" |
